Patient Testimonial: Better Sleep
Transforming patients’ quality of life is an important factor in how we practice dentistry at Mary Glasheen Dentistry. We believe in a whole-person awareness approach to health, and want to do more than give you shiny, clean teeth.
Your oral health affects your overall health in a variety of ways. We had a patient reach out to us with a detailed testimonial about the positive benefits he saw in his overall health after we created a mandibular advancement device for him. We decided it’s best to let you read his story in his own words because he’s so passionate about the results and their impact on his life.
To address my mild sleep apnea, Dr. Glasheen made me a mouth appliance that I wear at night, which has completely negated the need for me to be on CPAP, and it works GREAT!!!! I haven’t been on CPAP for two months, and I’m extremely happy with this awesome change in my health care.
I wear a watch (see end of review for watch details) that monitors my sleep. It scores my “Respiratory Quality”. Some problems, such as snoring, mouth breathing, and apnea, may occur during sleeping. More seriously, frequent apneas and repeated wake-ups will happen among people who have upper airway diseases or obesity. Finally, their sleep quality will be affected, which will lead to health problems.
Using my watch, I’ve been monitoring my breathing quality index daily for over a year. When I first got my mouth appliance from Dr. Glasheen, I was eager to see if my sleep quality index scores improved. THEY DID! See the tables below showing my sleep scores before and after I started using the appliance, which I began in January 2026. Some data points are missing because my watch was on the charger those nights.

I found that using the mouth appliance provided by Dr. Glasheen has made a terrific improvement in my sleep score. Goodbye CPAP machine.
The list of pros for using the appliance instead of the CPAP machine includes,
- Cleaning is a breeze
- No noise factor
- No distilled water to purchase or deal with
- Easily transported on an airplane
- Can swallow a pill with the mouth appliance in
- Nothing to detach if I need to get up in the middle of the night
- Very easy to change to a different bedroom if necessary
Cons for using the appliance instead of the CPAP machine include that it may not be covered by insurance (yet), and it is hard (but possible) to yawn with the appliance due to its very tight fit around the teeth, making it hard to open the jaw for a good yawn.
Overall, I would give my highest recommendation!
